Cavendish Teakean Elementary is a one-room school house (Kindergarten through sixth grade) in the Orofino School District 171 about a half hour from Orofino, Idaho and Kendrick Idaho.
The low teacher to student ratio and the presence of aides and parent volunteers ensures that the students get the help they need.
A family atmosphere prevails making the students feel safe and valued.
The small class size allows for creative learning experiences that are more difficult to conduct in larger schools.
Students experience positive peer interaction and develop social skills involving multi-age groups.
The older students learn patience while helping the younger students and develop cooperative play at recess that involves all age groups.
Test scores indicate these students are excelling at their studies.
