Dates For Your Calendar:

Please have your child bring their snowpants, snowboots, coat, hat, and gloves to school.  We have outside recess three times a day.  There is no “bad weather”, just inappropriate attire

Please return all unsold cards and money!  Thank you!

This year the students do not attend school on any Fridays!

Thursday, February 16th–Book Order Due

Thursday, February 16th–Cavendish Spell-Off–one student, either fourth, fifth, or sixth, will represent Cavendish at the District Spelling Bee.

Friday-Sunday February 17th-20th–Great Backyard Bird Count!  Your child has a list of a few of the local birds.  For bonus points your child can take 15-20 minutes to count how many of what kind of bird they see this weekend.  Keep track with tally marks.  Bring it back Monday for a treat and Mrs. S. will enter the data.

Monday, February 20th–No school (Presidents’ Day)

Thursday, February 23rd–Tar Wars for 5th/6th grade–Morgan Renner will come and talk with our students about being tobacco-free.

Tuesday, February 28th–Spelling Bee for our finalist at OES at 5:30

Thursday, March 1–Read Across America–Students may wear pajamas, bring a small blanket, pillow, favorite book, and small stuffed toy.

Thursday, March 8th–100 Day–Students may bring 100 items (like cereal, length of rope, marbles, pennies, etc.)

Wednesday, March 14rh–Pi Day–students will play with circumference, pi, and eat pie.  Feel free to donate a pie for the students to enjoy!

Welcome Back!

I hope you all had a wonderful and restful summer break!

In snail-mail I will be sending you a copy of your registration form.  Also included is an application for Free and Reduced-Price School Meals.  This is important to fill out if you feel you may qualify.  This information is confidential.    This information impacts the amount of federal funds given to support education in Orofino Schools.  Milk is ten cents each.  Also, on this blog there is a page with many of the other necessary forms that will need to be signed for this school year.  Feel free to print off, fill out, and send to school with your child (or scan and email them to me at toddnord@cpcinternet.com). 

We will be having music on Tuesdays.  4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will be having P.E. on Monday and Wednesdays at 2:15 while 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will have P.E. on Tuedays and Thursdays at 2:15.  The students will need P.E. shoes for the gym.  P.E. is a required subject and the students will need to participate unless they have a doctor’s note or a note from a parent.  Also, we will have snack time every morning at 9:30.  Please provide your child with a healthy snack.  During snack time students may share something with the class if they choose.  Monday: 6th; Tuesday: Kinder, 1st, 2nd; Wednesday: 4th; Thursday: 3rd, 5th.

Each week your child will bring home a Wildcat Newsletter.  This will have the same information as our school blog at http://cavendishelementary.wordpress.com.  Please read through this so you are aware of upcoming events, what your child is studying in different subject areas, and other important information.

If your child has any incomplete assisnments they may be asked to finish them at home for homework.  The is not because your child is not using their class time wisely.  I will contact you if this is an issue.  Most of the time their homework will be to read 100 minutes per week (this can be by themselves or with another family member), practice math facts, and practice spelling words or writing such as emailing or journaling.  Other good ideas for “homework” are to play board games or prepare dinner.

Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 23rd (8:00 AM to 11:30 AM for Kindergarten and 8:00-3:30 for 1st-6th).  Back to School Night will be Tuesday, August 30th 6:00-7:00 PM.  Feel free to bring snacks to share.  This is also the same day that School District #171 is to have their patrons vote on the bond levy.  So stop and vote on your way to Parent Night or on your way home! 

School/Class Pictures will be in the morning on September 8th.
